The Host (2013)

Director: Andrew Niccol
Country: USA

Plot: When an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, Melanie will risk everything to protect the people she cares most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world.

A little bit of a love story mixed in with a little bit of action and some sci-fi elements here and there. This is a remake of the popular Korean horror film with, of course, an Americanized touch. There isn’t really anything special that sticks out in this one like I think a lot of people expected, since it was hailed as the next Twilight for the longest time prior to it’s release. Funny enough with all the flak Twilight gets, I have to say it has more action than this one did, and was actually more entertaining as well. The cast did a great job, don’t get me wrong, but it just sort of fell flat compared to what I was hoping it would be. Cliche hooks in the writing and long scenes that tended to drag a bit brought it down from what it could have been in my eyes. It’s got Saoirse Ronan, Diane Kruger and the quarterback from I Am Number Four (Jake Abel) in a not-so douchey role this time. Check it out if you’re into the teen romance thing, otherwise pass.

Memorable moment: The scene with the mirrors and the wheat field.
